Week 1Beginner
Demo Lab — Packet Basics
Sample lab outline showing how guided labs render in the app.
Objectives
- Build a two-host topology in a simulator
- Assign addresses on the same subnet
- Ping and observe ARP behavior
Topology
Host-A ── Switch ── Host-B (same VLAN, same /24).
Prerequisites
- Demo lesson: OSI layers
Instructions
Step 1
Cable and address hosts
Connect two hosts to a switch. Assign static IPv4 addresses on the same network.
Host-A# ip 192.168.10.10 /24 Host-B# ip 192.168.10.20 /24
Step 2
Verify connectivity
Ping between hosts and note the ARP resolution step on the first ping.
Host-A# ping 192.168.10.20
Verification checklist
- Ping succeeds after ARP resolves.
- Switch MAC table shows both hosts.
Troubleshooting
Ping fails
Confirm mask and VLAN membership match on both hosts.
